Mary Ann Slater

I am a self-taught artist living and painting in Stirling, Ontario. My high realism work has been on display in galleries in Toronto and is now represented by the Sybil Frank Gallery in Prince Edward County.

I hand mix every colour that touches the canvas and use a wide range of tools (including my fingers) to create the textures you see in each painting. I focus on clean lines, high levels of detail and of course colour.

I love mixing the colours and using them to make the subject shine on the canvas. I use all white backgrounds to emphasize the beauty and simplicity of the object in the painting. I choose subjects for my paintings that tell a story, and speak to me in some way. They all have their own character and memory attached – it’s just up to us to decipher it.
