Sharon Lafferty

Sharon Lafferty lives and works in the historic Byward Market area of Ottawa. Her practice is curiosity and process driven and explores personal memory and experience. Many of her subjects are anonymous individuals who address the viewer directly. This invites the viewer to bring their own narrative to the work and often makes them feel a connection with the subject(s).
She studied art history and education at the University of New Brunswick then went on to work in forest entomology and aerial survey for several years. After moving to Ottawa she began working as a self-taught artist, then in 2007 enrolled in the Diploma program at the Ottawa School of Art to study studio arts full time.
She works from her studio at the Rectory Art House, part of Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts. Her work has exhibited in Canada and the United States and is in the city of Ottawa fine art collection and in private collections locally and abroad.
