Melanie Day

Melanie Day was born in Somerset England, at 21 she came to Canada and settled in Toronto. Melanie has recently moved to Port Hope Ontario, where she maintains her studio practice.

Inspired by her many travels where landscape is life. Her work approach is based on Sublime visual memory of nature, with intuitive execution, where sky meets land and water. With the use of oil paint on canvas Melanie creates many layers of glazes, which are then blended into each other wet on wet. This technique developed with her studies of the old masters use of glazing. The technique produces a very soft ethereal moody effect of light, dark and color.

Her intention is to produce an abstracted landscape, while drawing the viewer into a sense of peace and calm, as they experience their own personal recognition.

Melanie’s work has been featured on Cityline, Steven and Chris, and The Marylyn Dennis show. Her work has been included in several design magazines, is a favorite among interior designers in Toronto and Chicago and many private collections. Her work has been exhibited with galleries in Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Atlanta, and Mexico.
