Catherine Shea

Born in Toronto, Catherine Shea began her study of visual arts at Ridley College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto 1987.

Known for her love of colour, pattern and shape, Ms. Shea’s work was first displayed at House Dressing Design showroom in Toronto where she sold her first painting at the age of nineteen.

In 1985, Ms. Shea created Nuance Art, first exhibited in the heart of Toronto’s design district. In 1986, the collection of work was carried by Marci Lipman Contemporary Gallery.

Moving to Manitoba in 1990, Catherine secured joint and solo exhibitions at Winnipeg’s Gallery Lacosse. Her 2004 solo exhibition ‘New Horizons’ became a historical benchmark as it was her first sell-out show.

Ms. Shea co-created “Art Outside the Box”, Unilever’s 2005 national campaign which featured her artwork on Q-tip product boxes sold across Canada. This successful project spawned the creation of ‘Catherine Shea Studio’ featuring Catherine’s original artwork and art workshops.

2013 would be another turning point after visiting ‘Taliesin’, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter estate located in Scottsdale Arizona. Catherine’s work thereafter has expanded to include architectural geometric themes partnered with her trademark passion for colour.

Ms. Shea currently lives, paints and teaches in Toronto, Ontario.
